St. Thomas Council awards Knight of the Month for July 2023 to Gerard Nulton, who had reactivated his membership in the Knights of Columbus in April 2022. At that time, he took his second and third degree to become a full-fledged knight in the St. Thomas Council. On May 20th, Gerry took his Fourth Degree at an Exemplification sponsored by the W. Robert Bachelder 4th Degree Assembly.
Gerry is very active in the parish's CCD program and has put in countless hours teaching. This is one reason why I considered Gerry as our July Knight of the Month.
The other reason is at the May Council meeting I was much dismayed to see that our Grand Knight Dennis Breton did not have a gavel. God only knows what happened to our gavel. When you brother knights elected me as your Grand Knight again, my first executive action was to get myself a gavel! When I saw poor Dennis Breton without a gavel at May’s council meeting, I was damn determined that I would not bang a stapler on the side of the podium to get everybody’s attention! So, the very next day I bought one on ebay. They have everything! I got the Clarence Thomas signature model. I was now looking forward to presiding over our July meeting.
The story gets even better. A few of you brother knights were glad that I was made Grand Knight of this council again. One brother (in particular) was Gerry Nulton. I had attended the Feast of the Ascension service at Holy Family Church, a week after our May council meeting. I bumped into Jerry on my out and he told me that I will receive a “gift.” Huh? I didn’t give it much thought… not until that Saturday. I went to the Post Office to pick up my mail. I found a yellow call card in my box to go to the window. The postal clerk returned with two packages. One had the ebay logo on it – which I figured was my gavel. But what was in the other package? My-my! It was another gavel! What Jerry told me now made sense. Thank you Jerry! Now our council has a gavel! So does the 4th Degree!
Congratulations to our July Knight of the Month Gerry Nulton for his hard work and dedication to the St. Thomas Council and our parish!
