Extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion help distribute Holy Communion at Mass.
The names of extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion are presented to the Bishop for approval and commissioning. A person must be at least 16 years old and fully initiated into the Catholic Church in order to become an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. Per diocesan guidelines, they also go through a background check and safe environment training so that they can also bring communion to those who are sick or home bound.
