The Knights of Columbus Council 334 in Augusta, Maine hosted the first ever Nativity Celebration in the state capitol in the Hall of Flags in Augusta. The Nativity Scene was donated to the Knights of Columbus by the American Nativity Scene in Illinois , whose goal it is to place a Nativity Scene in every US State Capitol. The Maine Nativity is the first State Capitol Nativity that the Knights have placed in the history of the Knights of Columbus.
The December Nativity Celebration featured a Knights of Columbus Color/Honor Guard that represented 16 Assemblies throughout the State of Maine, an appearance by Maine Governor Paul LePage who reminisced about an early childhood Christmas, winners of the Central Maine Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest and the Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest, music by the Saint Michael School Choir, St. Dominic Academy Elementary School Choir and a special performance by the world renowned Mt. View High School Chamber Singers.
Honor Guard from the Robert Bachelder 4th Degree Assembly #0357 in Sanford were on hand at the ceremony.
The 2018 Nativity is scheduled for December 18, 2018.
